PHILOSOPHY

Highlands International School is a Christian school founded upon the belief that God is the source of all truth, and therefore true education is in accordance with His revealed Word, the Bible. We are dedicated to establishing a godly environment where the Bible is actively integrated into all aspects of school life. The purpose of education is to cooperate with parents to develop in students the knowledge and character that will enable them to fulfill their role within God’s plan.

Education at Highlands is characterized by a student-centered, and well-rounded curriculum with a high expectation for student achievement. We believe that respect for authority is an essential ingredient to quality education and character development; therefore, our classrooms are controlled with firm, loving discipline by qualified and dedicated teachers.

Our international atmosphere provides a welcome environment for students of all cultures, which fosters positive self-worth and mutual respect.

Non Discrimination Statement

Highlands International School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nation of origin, or ethnic background in any of its practices, including admissions or employment. As a Christian institution, the Word of God is the foundation and authority for every facet of the education we provide and the policies we hold as a school.

All administrators and faculty are required to have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ, believe the Bible as their divine and final authority for all Christian faith, life, and conduct, and to be a Christian witness to families, students, and colleagues.

Students at Highlands International School and their parents are not required to have any religious affiliation or statement of faith. However, parents need to understand that all school-made decisions regarding instruction, activities, policies, and other school-administered programs are driven by our statement of faith. Regardless of their religious affiliation and/or beliefs, all parents and students are required to adhere to the rules, regulations, and guidelines set forth by Highlands International School.

Bullying Policy

Bullying is defined as “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-age children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time*.” Another form of bullying is cyberbullying which is defined as “bullying that takes place using electronic devices. Examples of cyberbullying may include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles*.”

Highlands International School has a clear process for reporting and disciplining cases of bullying which can be found in the Parent/Student Handbook which all families must agree to abide by at the beginning of each school year.
